QLD: QR hauls a national record freight

BRISBANE, Dec 15 AAP - Queensland Rail hauled a national record 110.4 million tonnes of
freight last financial year, state transport minister Steve Bredhauer said today.

"This represents an increase of 15 per cent over two years and confirms QRs status as the
largest rail freight operator in Australia," Mr Bredhauer said.

The tonnage was dominated by bulk coal and minerals which accounted for 101.6 tonnes of the
total, he said.

Passenger numbers also increased, with metropolitan figures up 8.4 per cent and long
distance patronage up 3.4 per cent.

Mr Bredhauer said QR had a net operating profit of $187.3 million after tax and would pay a
dividend of $100 million to the state government.
