NSW: Unions, police to hold emergency budget talks
Union officials are expected to hold emergency talks with NSW Police Commissioner PETER
RYAN and Police Minister PAUL WHELAN after claims of $16 million in cutbacks.
NSW Police Association President MARK BURGESS says each Local Area Command would be asked
to slash $200,000 for its budget next year to pay for Olympic security.
Mr BURGESS says the word is out about the cutbacks but neither the government nor the
police were revealing what was going on and was requesting a meeting later this week.
He says officers from Griffith in south-western NSW are threatening strike action next
month if their command suffers a budget cut of 10 per cent.
