Fed: Reith joins PR firm

CANBERRA, Dec 19 AAP - Peter Reith has found a new job with a public relations firm.

The former industrial relations and defence minister, who has been under attack infederal parliament in recent months, will join the advisory board of Sydney based firmJackson Wells Morris.

The firm counts defence firm Tenix among its clients.

It has been Mr Reith's job as a consultant to Tenix, and the company's success in winningan $880 million defence department contract, that has come under Labor Party scrutiny.

He has also been attacked over his role in the children overboard inquiry, with a Senateinvestigation declaring Mr Reith deliberately misled the Australian public during lastyear's election campaign.

Company chairman and failed Labor Party candidate Keith Jackson said Mr Reith wouldbring a great deal to the firm.

"Peter's extensive experience in government and his policy and strategic skills arewell suited to the company's capabilities," he said in a statement.

"Peter will undertake assignments for various clients as well as advising our companyon its direction and policies."

On the advisory board, Mr Reith will be among plenty of Liberal Party friends.

Former chief of staff to Prime Minister John Howard, Grahame Morris, is on the boardas is a former press secretary to Mr Howard, John Wells.

But there are Labor connections too, with former Senate president Kerry Sibraa alsoon the advisory board to provide the company advice on government and political trends.

One of the company's clients is the Office of Employment Advocate which was set upby Mr Reith as part of his sweeping industrial relations reforms in the Howard government.

Mr Reith will take up his new role from January 1.
